Chapter 2:
___________________________________________________________________________________
Kiara was very unpleased when she found out she had no other classes with her sisters and all the rest of them had Logan in them. She was almost tempted to rip her schedule to shreds, she was so angry but how could that help her? So she endured 3 more classes with Logan’s ever growing creepy stare on her back. Then came the last class of the day, 7th period Geography. This was a class that Kiara did fairly well in but not as good as Lacey was.
The students sat in their chairs, anxiously waiting for the teacher to come already. There was a rumor going around that he was really young, cool and (as the girls rumored) hot. The bell that signaled for classes to start had already rung with the teacher walked in lazily with a coffee cup in hand. “Sorry kids, I just needed some coffee.” His voice was velvety and it made most of the girls in the room sigh. Kiara’s head snapped up from her desk when she heard it, it wasn’t that she was smitten with the sound of it but the familiarity of it. It was like she had heard it in a different life time.
The man that stood in from of the class room seemed very young, maybe just fresh out of college. And as the girls rumors had been true, he was very hot. He had fine dark brown hair and blue eyes, his face was matured and handsome. He had a perfect physic that put made him look not too bulky but not at all scrawny. ‘Where have you seen his face before?!’ Her inner thoughts were nagging at her.
“Hello class, my name is Mr. Johnson. But I’d Prefer if you just called me Hale.” He said writing his name on the board then turning to face the classroom of students. His gaze fell over Kiara and the two just stared at each other for a few seconds then a old memory hit her like a speeding train. She gripped her hand over her heart and felt as it began to rise in its beats. She began to hyper ventilate and she fainted. The class gasped. Fainting was a movement Kiara Paxton just did not do.
People ran to her aid. Hale came racing to her side. “Is she alright?!” “What do we do?!” “Oh dear lord, I hope she’s okay!” Things like this were shouted. Logan pushed through the crowd of people and picked her up bridal style. “I’ll take her to the nurses office, Sir” He glared at Hale. Hale knew what this boy was, what this....this degenerate was. This boy was inferior in all ways to Kiara and shouldn’t even have the privilege of being in her presence, well at least this is Hale thought.
“But your new here? How could you find the nurse’s office?!” Some boy protested in jealousy; how heroic it would seem to be carrying an unconscious girl to the nurse because he was concerned for her (That’s what the boys thought of this situation). “I have a map of the school in my pocket.” He stated simply and left the room. When in the halls, Logan put Kiara gently over his shoulder so he could get out his map and find his way to the nurse’s office. He thought it quite funny how when he first arrived the thought of this girl would of made him terribly angry but one glance at her and he had become infatuated.
Lacey, Skye, Ayi, Lily, and Dawn’s heads all shot up from there papers, at the same time, from different classes. The girls could feel something burning and itching inside of them. Something was wrong with one of their sisters. They could feel it. The girls couldn’t figure out later how they knew but they excused themselves from class and walked the halls. Eventually, they meet up with each other. “Are you guys okay?!” Lily asked. They all nodded. “But...if we’re okay. Maybe something’s wrong with Kiara?” Skye asked looking back and forth between the girls.
“Improbable. That in very unscientific.” Lacey muttered under her breath. “What was that?” Dawn looked at her. “Well, how did we all have a feeling that something is wrong? How? It’s so... unrealistic....” Lacey clarified. “Well, the world is full of unknown things we’ll probably never understand. Now can we just go see if Kiara’s okay?” Ayi said hurriedly. Then they all nodded and raced down the halls at motor speed. “I think she said she had geography 7th period.” Skye remembered and they went toward that classroom.
Logan finally found his way to the nurse’s office. Only to find that no one was there. He sighed tiredly and put Kiara on one of the very stiff looking rubbery beds that you always see in hospitals. He sat down in a chair next to the bed and waited...and waited... and waited some more for a teacher, a nurse, any form of staff to come into the room but no one ever did. So he decided to fix her up himself. He pushed her gently, trying to wake her up. Kiara stayed the same way for a few seconds and then her eyes started to flutter open. “W-what’s going on?” She mumbled to herself, not expecting someone to answer her. So she was startled when she heard Logan say “You fainted in class.”.
Kiara sat up from the bed using her elbows. “Impossible. I do no faint.” She ground out to him as if he were a small child. This made him smile. “Well, there’s a first to everything.” He said with a laugh. Kiara stared at him. “You have a nice laugh.” She told him, then her hand jolted up to her mouth. ‘I can’t believe I just told him that!’ Her mind scolded her. He smiled and she saw he had perfect straight, pearly white teeth. “Thanks.” He said.
Logan stood up and got a plastic bag, he saw a small cooler and opened it up. He put as much ice in it as he could then wrapped it and gave it to Kiara. “Thanks, my head does hurt... a little.” She said, only adding the last part because she didn’t want to seem weak. Logan noticed this but didn’t say a word; he was just starting to get on her good side and he wasn’t going back. Kiara held the bag to her head and laid back on the bed.
“So why did you faint exactly?” He questioned. “I...I don’t remember...” She whispered. Kiara tried and tried to remember what had happened but it just wouldn’t come to her thoughts. “Oh well.” Kiara shrugged.
The girls ran to the Geography classroom and peeked through the window in the door. Only to find that Kiara wasn’t in the room. Everyone’s facial expressions seemed to be a little distressed. Ayi opened the door and stepped inside with confidence. “Um, Mr. Johnson... I mean Hale, I need to ask you something.” She said. The sisters had the whole room’s undivided attention. “Does it have to do with your sister, Kiara?” He seemed to the answer himself but was still intent on asking. “Uh, Yes actually it does.” Dawn said with more than a little suspicion in her voice. “She fainted during class and a boy named Logan took her to the Nurse’s office. The girls stood there, as if not believing a word he said then raced out of the room at full speed.
“So, I hear those girls are your sisters.” Logan said starting up a conversation. Kiara sighed, she knew where this was headed but nodded anyway. “How can that be when you all look nothing alike, plus your all the same age.” He tilted his head to the side. ‘ugh. Why does he have to be so cute while being so annoying!’ Kiara thought. “Well, we were all adopted from the same woman, from the same orphanage, at the same age. Everyone else calls it odd, we... call it a miracle. I’d hate to think the life we would’ve had if Mr. & Mrs. Paxton hadn’t adopted us. And if you think that is strange, we all showed up out of the blue. We were just left at the doorstep but all at different times, there was no record of us anywhere. So the six of us just share the same birthday.” Kiara finished, most of the story had been said with much edge in her voice but Logan could tell that it was all real.
“Oh.” He said stupidly. ‘Nice move Logan!’ he scolded himself sarcastically. At that moment; Skye, Dawn, Ayi, Lily, and Lacey started to bang on the door loudly. “Kiara, are you in there?” They asked. Logan smiled when he saw Kiara roll her eyes, but he could see that she had a small smile playing on her lips. Logan got up from his chair and opened the door. The girls had been leaning up against the door to see if they could hear anything, so when he opened the door... they fell onto the floor inside the room. They girls jumped up off the floor and dusted themselves off. Kiara snorted.
“Geez, you guys make so much noise for one little thing.” Kiara laughed. The girls came closer to her bed. “You’re not just ‘one little thing’, Kiara! Your our sister, if anything happened to you... we’d be lost forever in a dark pit of despair” Skye told her, looking straight into Kiara’s eyes. The others nodded and when they saw tears come to the corners of Kiara’s eyes, they all came into a group hug. Logan was starting to feel a little put-out and didn’t want to interrupt the girls, so he slipped out of the room and back to class. Kiara noticed he was gone but the others had forgotten all about him.
The bell rang and all the girls went back to their previous classes to get their things. Kiara walked into the room and saw Hale sitting down at his desk, most likely grading papers. He didn’t even look when he said “Your things are over here.”. Kiara shifted uneasily, She wasn’t quite sure but she felt like his face was familiar. She slowly came closer to his desk. Finally, he looked up at her and laughed at her expression. “Don’t worry, I won’t bite.” He said and Kiara felt like he left out the “Much” part. He looked nice and sweet but those are usually the people with a bad secret.
Hale pushed back his chair and pulled out her backpack from under his desk. “I moved it so the other kids won’t step on it.” He said simply as he handed it to her, looking straight into her eyes. Kiara started to feel a bit off and grabbed her quickly. “Bye Mr. Johnson.” She whispered and ran out of the room. Her sisters were already waiting for her. “you know, that guy is overly familiar! Where have I seen him before?” Dawn asked about Hale as they walked toward their Suburban. “I don’t know but I don’t like him one bit...” Kiara mumbled.
